What Are Ford Super Duty Trucks Made Of?

Going back to the first F-150s and F-250s, Ford truck cabs, beds, fenders, and hoods consisted of heavy steel. To meet government mileage standards, Ford gradually thinned the steel on all these surfaces. Then, in 2017, Ford lightened the load further by changing the upper body of the Ford F-series of trucks to a military grade aluminum that was stronger and lighter.

In the Super Duty truck series, Ford used the 350-lbs of weight shed by the change to military grade aluminum alloy on the upper parts of the body to add weight to the working parts of the powertrain, brakes, and understructure. With the addition of more strength to the working parts of the Super Duty truck line, Ford created a series of trucks with the highest performance rating in the industry.
